Living in Highland Mills, NY: What Home Buyers Should Know
By Ammar Iqbal | Real Estate Salesperson, eXp Realty
Highland Mills is a residential hamlet in the Town of Woodbury, just north of Central Valley. With quiet streets, plenty of green space and quick access to major highways, it is a popular choice for families and commuters. Here is what home buyers should know. For a full overview, see my Highland Mills, NY neighborhood guide.
A Quiet, Residential Feel
Highland Mills is known for tree-lined neighborhoods and a relaxed pace. It feels comfortable and settled, yet everyday shopping is only minutes away. Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is nearby, and Woodbury's town parks offer pools, ball fields, playgrounds and walking paths.
Commuting from Highland Mills
Highland Mills sits along Route 32, close to the New York State Thruway and Route 17 at Harriman. Commuter buses run to New York City, and Metro-North's Harriman station is close by. Commute times depend on your route and traffic, so try your trip at rush hour before you buy. My post on commuting from nearby Monroe covers many of the same routes.
Outdoors and Day Trips
If you like the outdoors, Highland Mills is a great base. Harriman State Park and Schunnemunk Mountain offer hiking for every level. West Point, Storm King Art Center and the Hudson River are all a short drive away. For more local ideas, see things to do in Monroe and my Central Valley guide.
Schools
Highland Mills is served by the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District. As with any home, always confirm the school district for the specific address before you make an offer. I am glad to help you check.
Types of Homes You Will Find
Buyers will find colonials, raised ranches and split-levels, along with newer single-family homes, townhomes and condos. That mix makes Highland Mills a fit for first-time buyers as well as growing families. You can browse Highland Mills homes for sale to see what is on the market today.
