Things to Do in Central Valley, NY: Outlets, Harriman Trails and Bear Mountain Day Trips

Central Valley is a hamlet in the Town of Woodbury in southeastern Orange County, NY. It's known for big-name shopping, but it also sits right at the edge of some of the best parkland in the Hudson Valley. Shop at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets

Woodbury Common is one of the largest outlet centers in the world, and it's right in Central Valley. Locals know to go on weekday mornings to beat the crowds. It's an easy trip for holiday shopping without heading into the city.

Explore Harriman State Park

Harriman State Park is just to the east. It has many miles of marked trails, including part of the Appalachian Trail, plus lakes for swimming and picnics in summer. Fall foliage drives along the park roads are a local tradition. Bring a trail map, since some trails are rocky and cell service can be spotty.

Visit Bear Mountain

Bear Mountain State Park is a short drive farther east. You can drive up to the summit for wide Hudson River views, walk around Hessian Lake, or visit the Trailside Museums and Zoo. In winter, the outdoor skating rink is a fun family outing.

See Storm King Art Center

Storm King Art Center, a huge outdoor sculpture park, is about 15 minutes north. It's a great spot for a long walk on a nice day. Check the season and ticket details before you go.

Learn Some Local History

Central Valley has interesting history. Tomás Estrada Palma, the first president of Cuba, lived here, and Estrada Road is named for him. Nearby West Point, with its museum and river views, makes a great half-day trip for history fans.

Enjoy Nearby Towns
