Port Jervis sits where New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania meet, along the Delaware and Neversink Rivers. It is a small city with railroad history, river views and plenty of outdoor fun. Here are some favorite things to do for residents and visitors. For a full look at the area, see my Port Jervis, NY neighborhood guide.

Stand in three states at Tri-State Rock

At the point where the Neversink meets the Delaware, a marker shows where New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania come together. It is a fun stop for kids and visitors. The historic Laurel Grove Cemetery sits right beside it along the river.

Get out on the Delaware River

In warm months the Delaware is the main event. Rafting, tubing, kayaking and canoeing are popular, and local outfitters rent gear and run trips. Anglers come for the river's fishing too. Always check river conditions and wear a life jacket.

Take in the view from Point Peter

Elks-Brox Memorial Park sits on the ridge above the city, with a lookout over Port Jervis and the river valley. Nearby trails lead up toward Point Peter. It is especially pretty during fall foliage season.

Drive the Hawk's Nest

Just north of the city, Route 97 winds along cliffs high above the Delaware at the Hawk's Nest. It is one of the most famous scenic drives in New York and a favorite for photos.

Explore railroad and local history

Port Jervis grew up as a railroad town. The restored Erie Depot downtown is a reminder of those days. History fans can also visit Fort Decker, a stone house museum run by the Minisink Valley Historical Society.

Walk downtown

Front Street and Pike Street have local shops, cafes and restaurants, and the city hosts community events through the year. Metro-North's Port Jervis Line also starts here, which makes car-free day trips easy.
