One of the best parts of living in Orange County, NY is how much there is to do close to home. In a short drive you can go from a riverfront city to farm country, a mountain trail or a world-famous art park. If you're thinking about moving here, this guide covers the spots locals love most.

Art, history and iconic landmarks

Storm King Art Center in Cornwall is one of the most recognizable places in the Hudson Valley, with huge outdoor sculptures set across rolling fields and mountain views. West Point sits right on the Hudson River and draws visitors for its history and scenery. In Newburgh, Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site tells the story of the final years of the Revolutionary War.

Hiking and the outdoors

Orange County has easy access to Bear Mountain and Harriman State Park, Schunnemunk Mountain, Sterling Forest and a stretch of the Appalachian Trail. For something flat and family-friendly, the Orange County Heritage Trail connects Goshen, Middletown, Chester and Monroe on a paved rail trail that's great for walking, running and biking.

Shopping, shows and family fun

Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley attracts shoppers from all over. Families can visit LEGOLAND New York in Goshen, and Middletown's historic Paramount Theatre hosts concerts and comedy. The arts-and-crafts shops of Sugar Loaf in the Town of Chester make for a relaxed afternoon.

Finding the right town for your lifestyle

Every town in Orange County has its own feel. Want a lively, central location with lots of home choices? Look at Middletown. Prefer a historic village? Check out Goshen. Love wide-open spaces and farm country? Warwick may be the fit. Commuting toward the city? Monroe and Chester are popular, and river lovers often look at Cornwall and Newburgh.
